How to get the best double glazing prices

At Climateframe Double Glazing, we manufacture windows and doors, but we also install double glazed windows for the general public so there is no need for the additional mark-up of a retailer – when searching around for a reputable company to deal with, be sure to ask if they are a double glazed windows and doors manufacturer.

Feel free to visit our manufacturing facility and showroom at 51 Innovation Circuit, Wangara or view our factory process video to see exactly how we make our double glazed windows and doors.

Another way to get the best price for double glazed windows is to ask one of our team members to optimise the window styles from a cost perspective to assist with bringing down the overall double glazed windows cost. We can even show you comparisons of different styles of double glazed windows at the same sizes, so you can compare the price for yourself.

How much does double glazing cost in Australia?

Double glazing in Australia can cost anywhere from $150 to $1,500 per sqm, depending on the installer. Prices will also depend on whether the house is a 3 bedroom or 4 bedroom house. There are many variables that contribute to the overall price of double glazing, these include:

The quality of the profile used to manufacture the window.
Some manufacturers use inferior profiles that are cheaper to purchase but carry the risk of breaking down in the harsh climate of Australia. At Climateframe we only use Kommerling profile, for our uPVC range, in the manufacture of our windows and doors – outstanding quality materials that are tested for Australian conditions and guaranteed not to fail you.
The amount of hardware required to manufacture the window.
The more opening components you have in a window, the more expensive it will be due to the cost of hinges, handles and additional labour. Fixed windows are the cheapest option as there is no hardware involved in the manufacture.

The size of the window.
The larger a window is, the more materials are used in manufacturing it, so it costs more.
The type of glass you choose
(tinted, low-e etc.) and thickness of glass (e.g. 6.38mm-20-4mm).

The colour of the windows.
Foiled profiles such as signal grey, anthracite and golden oak are slightly more expensive as there is more work in the extrusion of the profile while white and cream are the more cost effective alternative.

Double Glazing Cost Guide For Perth (2024)

Before comparing the price of window systems it is important to have an understanding of the various options available in Perth. The current standard window system (In most homes) for Perth residential homes is single glazed glass in aluminium frames. These window systems are cheap to supply, but almost entirely, seriously poor quality. Common issues involve poor security, colour fading, rattling, water leaks, drafts, poor noise abatement and very poor thermal performance.

There are three main types of double glazed window systems on the Perth Market. Double glazed aluminium (Not thermally broken), double glazed aluminium (Thermally broken) and uPVC frames. The quality of materials in the frames and good workmanship in manufacturing are absolutely critical to the overall performance and longevity of the window systems. Good quality installation is also essential when considering upgrading to double glazing.

Some local suppliers are offering poor quality windows and doors manufactured overseas.

Most, locally manufactured, double glazed windows and doors offer significant security, general quality (Noise and temperature control) benefits when compared with standard single glazed window.

PVC frames combined with the right glass selection provides the best thermal performance. Thermal broken aluminium is the next best and non-thermal broken aluminium frames has the lowest thermal performance compared with the two other double glazed options.

In terms of price, due to the amount of labour involved, there isn’t a significant difference when comparing retrofitting single glazed window systems with double glazed systems in renovation work.

In new builds, the difference in price between single glazing and uPVC double glazing is more significant. This is due mainly to the different installation methods. As a guide, the following table illustrates a price comparison between the various glazing options for a small home.

Renovation

New Build

Thermal broken aluminium double glazing

$39,000

$35,000

uPVC double glazing

$25,000

$21,000

Non-thermal broken aluminium double glazing

$24,000

$17,000

Single glazed aluminium

$21,000

$11,000

Considering the lifetime benefits of double glazing the additional initial cost for a quality system is worth the investment.

It is very important to choose a company wisely.

Climateframe Double Glazing is passionate about maintaining an industry leading lead time for installing your double glazing windows. Typically our lead time is no longer that 3 -6 weeks from check measure for uPVC and 8-10 weeks for aluminium frames. If this is different then you will be advised by your design consultant or feel free to call and ask us upfront.
We understand that your home and style is unique. This is why when it comes to the manufacture and supply of uPVC window and door systems, we want to offer you a range of frame colour options that will stand the test of time and will meet a wide variety of design choices for inside and outside of your home. Currently, we offer 5 standard colours to choose from in uPVC. These are; White, Cream, Golden Oak, Anthracite, and Black Smooth. We have a wide range of colours which require special order. Our aluminium frames have a full range of powder coating options.
Here are some reasons why double glazing is better than your standard single glazed windows:
  • Double glazed windows are a much more energy-efficient option than single glazed windows.
  • Double glazing is much better at reducing noise compared to single glazing.
  • Double glazed windows are typically stronger and more durable than single glazed windows.
  • Double glazed windows require much less maintenance compared to single glazed windows.
  • Single glazed windows are more limited in terms of design options.

Excellent, highly recommend. We live in a 100+ yr old house and despite it being very tricky to change over several windows and doors into very wonky places, they made it work and it looks great! The installers were awesome too, did such a good job and took their time to do it properly. Very impressed!

Highly recommend using Climate Frame. We are so happy with our new double glazing windows and doors. From start to finish we had a great experience with them and couldn’t fault them. Very professional and the team who installed were all lovely and went over and above to give advice to get the best finish. It has made such an amazing difference to our home with the sound and also the drafts that we had before. So glad we went with them. Our neighbours have all commented positively after seeing ours completed. They have not been as impressed with the company’s that they chose.
